12.8 Thousand Buildings Completed in Abu Dhabi During the First Half

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi witnessed the completion of 12,816 buildings during the first half of this year, including the completion of new construction, modifications, and additions, in all areas of the emirate, distributed as follows: 8,040 buildings during the first quarter, and 4,776 in the second quarter.

According to the monitoring of the Emirates News Agency (WAM), based on the initial official data issued by the Department of Municipalities and Transport and the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi, the city of Abu Dhabi recorded the largest share of the number of completed buildings, after the completion of 9,240 buildings, most of which were new buildings, followed by the city of Al Ain, which completed 3,244 buildings during the first half, while the Al Dhafra region completed 332 buildings.

According to the data, the total number of building permits issued during the first and second quarters amounted to about 4,068 new permits, distributed according to the purpose of the building, including commercial, industrial, residential, agricultural, public facilities, and other uses.

Regarding the type of building permits issued, residential permits recorded the largest share, after issuing 2,309 permits during the first half, followed by commercial building permits with 968 permits, while 343 building permits were registered for public facilities, 214 industrial building permits, in addition to issuing 105 building permits for agricultural uses, and 68 other building permits.

In detail, the statistics of buildings completed during the second quarter of 2024, the number of buildings completed throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi amounted to about 4,776 buildings, distributed as follows: 3,207 buildings in Abu Dhabi, 1,469 in Al Ain City, and 100 buildings in Al Dhafra City.

The number of building permits issued in the emirate during the same period amounted to 1912 licenses, including 1102 residential licenses, 409 commercial building licenses, 121 industrial licenses, 174 public facilities building licenses, 54 agricultural licenses, and 32 other licenses, distributed in various fields throughout the emirate. Building licenses in Abu Dhabi during the second quarter included licensing 1352 new buildings, in addition to issuing 140 licenses for additions, and 420 building modification licenses.

Abu Dhabi topped the list in terms of building licenses, as the number of registered licenses reached 1350 licenses, distributed as 746 residential building licenses, 341 commercial building licenses, 80 industrial building licenses, 121 public facilities licenses, in addition to 33 agricultural building licenses, and 29 other licenses.

According to the data, the number of new buildings completed in Abu Dhabi amounted to about 2,751 new buildings, 334 buildings were modified, in addition to completing 122 building additions during the same period.

For its part, Al Ain city registered 472 new building permits during the second quarter, including 316 residential building permits, 62 commercial, 34 industrial, 29 public facilities, 12 agricultural building permits, and 19 other building permits, while the number of new buildings completed amounted to 1,269 buildings, 146 “additions” were completed, and 54 buildings were modified.

Based on building permit statistics in Al Dhafra, 90 building permits were registered, with the largest share being residential permits, with 40 permits issued, followed by public facilities with 24 permits, nine agricultural building permits, seven industrial, six commercial building permits, and four other permits, in addition to completing 94 new buildings, and six buildings for additions and modifications.
